7.5 hour course that builds on the basic techniques to include punches, uppercuts, hooks, upper-body strikes, lower-body strikes, counters to various attacks from the front and rear, chokes, joint locks, throws, unarmed restraints, and armed manipulations, and includes intensive practice to build critical muscle memory so you can perform what you’ve learned in stressful situations.
Options include:
Individual or Partner Sessions for up to 2 people
Small Group Courses for 4-6 people
Group Courses for up to 10 people
On Going Self Defense Coaching
60 minute classes in which you will practice your techniques to become comfortable and proficient at reacting to a frontal or rear attack.
Notes on Scheduling:
Intro courses and larger group courses have scheduled times and locations available to choose from.
Individual and small groups can set a custom time for Self Defense classes - the group can agree on the best location.
7.5 hour schedules can be broken into a variety of options, including 90 minute sessions over 5 days, 2.5 hour sessions over 3 days, or 3.75 sessions over 2 days. One day sessions (7.5 hours) are not preferred because muscle memory is more effectively built when classes occur over more than one day.
A Note on What to Expect
Class will begin with dynamic stretching and guided warmups. We’ll then typically work on technique by punching or striking in the air to start learning the basic body mechanics. Next, to make these techniques real, we’ll work with kick-shields or punching bags to practice them at full force. After that, we’ll do some partner drills or light sparring to become familiar with being in contact with another body. This will all be sprinkled throughout class as new / different techniques are taught.
Please wear exercise clothes and bring a water bottle and hand towels.
We want you to feel safe here.
Many people looking for self defense classes have been attacked or experienced some other personal trauma. Traumatic events often leave mental scars as well as physical, even subconscious. Sometimes certain aspects of hands-on drills, or even striking practice can be triggering. Here at Zulu Tango Papa, LLC, we fully understand this. You don’t HAVE to participate in any exercise that makes you feel uncomfortable. If at any point, if you start feeling uncomfortable, you can simply stop or tell the instructor or your partner and they can give you a modification or alternate activity. Open communication is the key to overcoming stressful triggers and we strive to create this healing atmosphere.
